Launched in 2019 in France, Evaan Market is a e-marketplace allowing you to find atypical, original and traditional products, directly from Southeast Asia, in particular from Cambodia, the country of origin of Thong Dara’s parents, its founder. During his trip in Cambodia last February, Thong Dara paid a visit to the production site of Confirel, whose products he markets, where he was welcomed by Dr. Hay Ly Eang.
Increasingly popular in the French Asian diaspora, Evaan Market wants to work for a more conscious, ethical and responsible climate thanks to an e-commerce platform that values Southeast Asia, its culture, its crafts, its creators and its small traders.
Evaan Market is much more than an online store because it is one of the facets of a “return to Asia” of its founder and those who walk with him.
“Because of the exclusion from which I suffered as a child because I was of Asian origin, I first experienced a form of rejection of my Cambodian culture. I had no real knowledge of our history, of our culture. But I ended up taking an interest in it and I became proud of it and, since then, I have never ceased to make it known, ” he confided after the visit of the Confirel factory.
This is how, in parallel with his professional career which began as a ready-to-wear salesman before becoming, at the age of 23, store manager for a major brand, he founded with his best friend, in 2013, the cultural association and humanitarian Samaki Kohn Khmer which organizes many events showcasing Cambodian artists, thereby greatly participating in cultural life in France and humanitarian in Cambodia.
Dara then launched the Sabay movement in 2017, through a ready-to-wear collection, mixing ancestral traditions and urban culture before creating in 2019 Evaan Markets & Services.
“One of the reasons why Evaan exists today is that we want to support small traders, creators or artists by exporting their products and creations all over the world. So your purchases have a direct impact on them and allow them to generate additional income to help them in their development. One of the objectives of Evaan is thus to make the link between the Asian diaspora and their cultures, as well as to be able to discover and share the riches of Southeast Asia to all people with an interest in the latter“, is it explained on the site.
To this end, Evaan Market organizes many events for the Asian community in France and everyone interested in this region of the world. We will of course echo this in this newsletter.
